The world’s smallest and cheapest car Tata Nano is going to have a size make over and by the looks of it there are talks that the boot space o the car is going to be increased. There has been no official announcement made by Tata Motors about this report, but there are speculations going on the internet that Tata Motors are committed to increase the boot space of this car in order to remove its city only car tag. There are also talks that this increase in boot space will increase the price of the car also by a notch or two. Tata Motors have already confirmed that they are making a few changes to their present car and will be shortly coming out with a CNG version of the car in order to increase its popularity among the common middle class people in India. The CNG version is expected to be coming out by the end of the this year and the diesel engine version of Tata Nano is expected to hit the Indian roads by the end of the first quarter of next year.
Tata Motors think tank is of the opinion that increasing the boot space will not be a factor that will help in increasing the sales of the car, but they are confident that the CNG version and the diesel engine version that will coming out shortly will provide the much needed sales boost that Tata is looking for. It is to be noted that Tata Motors was not able to create the miracle that it hoped to create when they announced the concept of bringing out the world’s smallest and cheapest car.
Audi and BMW are bringing out new models and Mercedes cannot afford to be left out. Audi has gained a firm hold on the market and is trying to become the largest luxury car maker in the world. Since its launch in 2010 the Mercedes E- class has not undergone any changes. Mercedes will bring the facelifted E-class in 2014. Japanese auto maker Isuzu had announced their plan to venture in the Indian auto market in July, 2012. Now the Isuzu MU-7 SUV is being tested in Pune, India. This SUV comes in both 4X2 and 4X4 models and is very popular in Japan. We have to watch and see how this SUV will be received in India. Isuzu is not a popular name in the auto segment in India. Isuzu in collaboration with Swaraj-Mazda supplies diesel engine here. Though there is demand for SUV’s in India, the customers will hesitate to go after a vehicle with is not well-known.
The MU-7 from Isuzu is a 7-seater SUV which is originally based on the D-Max truck chassis. Currently this SUV is powered by a 3.0-litre turbo charged diesel engine that can produce a peak power of 146bhp and a torque of 294 Nm. It will require some serious effort from Isuzu to promote their vehicles here. Isuzu will have to compete with big shots in the SUV segment like Safari Storme, Ford Endeavour and SsangYong Rexton. According to the available information Isuzu currently have plans to import the MU-7 from Thailand and assemble it at the HM plant in Chennai. Isuzu will set up its own facility by the year 2015. The cost for building such a facility in India is expected to be around Rs. 1,000 Crore. According to rumors the Isuzu MU-7 SUV will reach the Indian auto market by early or mid 2013.
