Audi and BMW are bringing out new models and Mercedes cannot afford to be left out. Audi has gained a firm hold on the market and is trying to become the largest luxury car maker in the world. Since its launch in 2010 the Mercedes E- class has not undergone any changes. Mercedes will bring the facelifted E-class in 2014. According to the manufacturer the changes to this luxury sedan will be extensive. It is expected that this vehicle will be unveiled in the Detroit motor show in January.
There are significant changes in the exterior of which the major ones are the headlights and the front grille. The headlamp styling and the daytime running LED’s will be different from what they are now. The front and rear bumpers are new and the tail lamps will be revised as well. In this new E-class the panels will remain the same. Inside the cabin the dashboard won’t be as angular as it is in the 2010 model. Mercedes will be using quality of the materials inside and will make the seats more supportive. The instrument console would be new and the switchgear will come with an improved multimedia system. The other features of this elegant vehicle include the Distronic cruise control and Brake Assistance and the anti-collision systems.
The E-class will come with a new turbocharged 4 cylinder petrol engines. The M274 engine is the same as in the A-class but has been re-engineered to make it get mounted longitudinally. The entry level petrol model will have the 1.6-litre, direct injection turbo charged engine producing 158PS and there will be the 2-litre producing 184PS, 210PS and 250PS in its different trim levels. The most powerful petrol engine among these will be the 3-litre, V6 producing 340PS on the new E400. The E500 will use a twin-turbo, 4.7-litre, V8 delivering 435PS while the AMG version of the E-class will use the 5.5-litre, V8 producing 525PS.
The entry level diesel engine would be the 2.1-litre turbo diesel motor bringing about 136PS, 170PS and 204PS in its three contrasting trim levels for the E200, E220 and E250 CDI respectively. There would besides be a 3-litre, V6 diesel motor germinating 230PS and 265PS for the E300 CDI and E350 CDI. Seven-speed automatic gearbox will be coupled to all the above mentioned engines. The maker is stated to have fine-tuned the chassis also and the E-class would arrive with a bettered and boosted edition of Mercedes’ brand-new Magic Ride accommodative damping. It is in this section that Mercedes cooked its most substantial improvements once it set in motion the E-class couple of years ago and for the first time the E-class could vie dynamically with the BMW 5-series and the Audi A6 on an equal ground.
